Global OTT revenues to hit $243 billion by 2028

Revenues from OTT television and movies predicted to generate $17 billion in 2023, growing to $243 billion globally by 2028

New data from Digital TV Research predicts revenue from global OTT TV episode and movies will reach $243 billion in 2028, a rise of $86 billion on 2022 revenues ($157 billion), with roughly $17 billion forecast to be generated in 2023.

“AVoD revenues from TV series and movies will grow faster than SVoD,” explained Simon Murray, principal analyst at Digital TV Research. “AVoD revenues will reach $91 billion by 2028, up by $52 billion from $38 billion in 2022. SVoD revenues will climb by $29 billion between 2022 and 2028 to $132 billion.”

Findings from the research suggests that the top five countries will command two-thirds of global revenues by 2028. OTT revenues are set to exceed $1 billion in 25 countries by 2028, up from 18 countries in 2022.

The US is expected to remain the dominant territory, with its share of global revenues reaching 42 per cent by 2028. US revenues will climb by $33 billion between 2022 and 2028 to reach $102 billion.
