Minerva Networks gives viewers control with new Smart Highlights service

Sports fans can tell the solution how long they have to watch highlights, and it will create a package based on that time, they can also follow a specific player, and choose which 'play' the want to watch.

Minerva Networks has created a new Smart Highlights solution which aims to give fans personalised highlights reels based on length of time, individual player or type of play.

Minerva is aiming the solution at subscribers of pay-TV channels, powered by its turnkey Cloud service, YourTV.

Sports fans can tell the solution how long they have to watch highlights, and it will create a package based on that time, they can also follow a specific player , and choose which ‘play’ the want to watch – so for football they can opt for free kicks, corners, or shots on goal.

“Our team continues to develop disruptive technologies that give operators the ability to deliver more personalised and engaging experiences,” said Fabrizio Capobianco, chief innovation officer at Minerva. “Everyone feels pressed for time these days and with sports leagues all over the world restarting amid the Covid crisis, Smart Highlights lets viewers keep up with all the games.”

Minerva has also announced a partnership with European video recognition and content intelligence company Metaliquid on a deep learning platform that automatically creates television highlights in real-time.

The Metaliquid technology uses AI, Deep Learning, and computer vision algorithms to analyse video streams and generate metadata with predefined timestamped descriptive tags.

According to the two companies, the integration of Minerva’s platform with Metaliquid’s technology unlocks “unprecedented hyper-personalised content consumption by enabling users to select highlight reels that fit within the time available, or focus on topics of interest.”
