Madrid’s Teatro Monumental updates broadcast tech

Featuring two UHD Finepix 1.5 MATIX AlfaCOB displays designed for broadcast capture and live performance environments, the installation integrates with the historic space

Alfalite has announced the completion of a project to install two UHD Finepix 1.5 MATIX AlfaCOB LED displays at RTVE’s Teatro Monumental.

One of the Spanish national public broadcaster’s key venues in Madrid, Teatro Monumental is home to the RTVE Symphony Orchestra and Choir, also hosting television recordings, special broadcasts, live music productions and more. The historic venue required a solution capable of integrating naturally while ensuring broadcast quality and day-to-day technical operations can reliably coexist.

Working in collaboration with its technology partner, BroadService, Alfalite’s installation provided the theatre with two 3.00 x 1.69-metre LED displays placed on either side of the main stage, enabling RTVE to incorporate graphics, visual identities, live feeds, text and audiovisual content into its productions.

Featuring high colour uniformity, wide viewing angles, full front maintenance and silent operaiton, the displays aimed to meet demanding broadcast specifications to ensure clean on-camera images free from flicker.

Each display provides full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels in a 16:9 format, with a 1.5 mm pixel pitch, combining high visual density with precise image reproduction even at short viewing distances. A 7,680 Hz refresh rate, brightness of up to 1,500 nits, 20,000:1 contrast ratio and wide colour coverage aims to ensure clean camera capture without flicker, moire or other common artefacts.

Full front access enables simplified technical interventions, with the displays flush-mounted into the stage area’s side cladding to reduce overall depth.

“RTVE had very specific requirements for this installation: excellent on-camera performance, discreet integration into the stage environment and maximum reliability for continuous use. Meeting that level of expectation in a venue such as Teatro Monumental is particularly meaningful for Alfalite,” said Luis Garrido, Alfalite’s executive director.

“Teatro Monumental brings together culture, television and live events. That is precisely where our displays deliver the greatest value: when the image has to perform equally well for the audience in the venue, for the broadcast production team and for a demanding day-to-day operation.”
