elp Broadcast Lighting collaborated with lighting and video designer Russell Grubiak, to equip three venues hosting events at this year’s National Eisteddfod of Wales, which were broadcast live over the festival’s nine days.
Aiming to blend tradition with innovation in using technology to honour the Eisteddfod’s heritage, Grubiak commented, “I wanted every stage to feel alive, with lighting that moves and breathes with the performances.”

The company provided a range of LED moving and static lights which included: Martin Mac Aura XB, GLP Impression X5 Wash, ETC Halcyon Titanium Ultrabrite, Martin MAC One, Robe Megapointe on the top rig, in addition to a floor package featuring Chauvet COLORado Batten Q15 and Chauvet COLORdash Par H7IP and H12IP.
The solution enabled dynamic colour layering, pixel mapping and time-coded sequences synchronising with live music and visuals, providing an immersive experience designed to elevate visual storytelling across the event, said elp.
Optimised programming and energy-efficient LED technology aimed to ensure sustainability was placed front and centre, with no compromise on brightness or drama.
Grubiak said, “Working with the elp team was an absolute pleasure. Their professionalism, passion, and technical expertise are second to none. Together, we created something that felt uniquely Welsh and universally inspiring.”
Darren Fletcher, director at elp, added, “Working with Russell and the wider team at the National Eisteddfod Festival is truly rewarding. I am proud to say that I’ve worked on this event for 38 years and it’s been great seeing it evolve, from the early days of 5ks, Blondes and Pars to the latest LED technology like the tiny MAC One.”
