Gravity Media has joined forces with Bifrost to test the technology vendor’s 25G Quasi-Coherent (QC) pluggable optical transceiver for SMPTE ST 2110 broadcast media transport over long distances.
According to the two partners, the collaboration. gives a cost-effective option to end-users who want to deploy Ethernet/Optical networks for SMPTE ST 2110 media transport.
Bifrost has developed the industry’s first 25G DWDM SFP28 pluggable transceiver, combining extended reach, ultra-low latency, low power consumption, and compact SFP-class form factor operation.
The advantages offered by the technology include:
- Compact SFP28 footprint suitable for high-density platforms
- Ultra-Low latency operation for video broadcasting applications, distributed AI infrastructure and Mobile Fronthaul
- Full C-Band coverage
- DSP-free architecture enabling significantly lower power consumption, improved chromatic dispersion tolerance and extended reach.
The companies expect the technology to support a broad range of future SMPTE ST 2110 applications including transport for outside broadcast, sporting events and stadium networks; as well as a future high-resolution video broadcasting platform extension.
