Students compete for IBC spots

The IABM student sponsorship programme has brought nine successful qualifiers over to IBC from universities in the UK, France, Germany, Russia and Finland. St Petersburg University saw 35 students competing for two places.

All the students selected are given Silver registration plus travel, hotel and daily allowance support.

Martin Salter, who manages the group on behalf of the IABM, said that records of past groups show that the majority of students have subsequently entered the industry, in academic positions, engineering, manufacturing or with broadcasters.

“The scheme has been incredibly successful in terms of securing students who might have moved into other industries such as IT,” he added.

“The mix of men and women has been split 50/50. From St Petersburg it has predominantly been young women, but this year it is one man, one woman.”

All students are required to produce a report from IBC including a video diary.
