IBC Daily Executive Summary: Is this machine learning?

The 2017 IBC Daily Executive Summary is now available online. The digital edition features exclusive interviews with the keynote speakers from this year’s IBC Conference programme, Leaders’ Summit, and C-Tech Forums: 5G and Cyber Security. One of the most prominent themes emanating from both the conference theatres and the show floor was the potential for artificial intelligence solutions in broadcast infrastructure and workflows, and how machine learning could help to streamline processes across the media landscape.

The cover story features one of the most talked about appearances at IBC2017: Dr David Hanson and his humanoid robot, Sophia. Is this machine learning? In both senses, it is, but despite the unlikelihood of Sophia being a representative example of what machine learning will look like in our industry, it’s safe to say that AI is coming to the media and entertainment sector.

Other highlights in the Executive Summary include interviews with HRH Prince Constantijn Van Oranje-Nassau who leads StartupDelta, the accelerator for the startup ecosystem in the Netherlands; Brian Sullivan of 21st Century Fox; Daniel Danker, Facebook; Latha Maripuri, News Corp; Liz Ross, Freeview Australia; Jeff Kember, Google; and Christopher Mead, Twitch.
