Beenius advocates cutting the cord at IBC

Beenius is showcasing its interactive TV platform and middleware at IBC to demonstrate how operators can adapt to the world of IPTV

Beenius is showcasing its interactive TV platform and middleware at IBC to demonstrate how operators can adapt to the world of IPTV.

Filip Remškar, CEO of Beenius said the future of television lies in smartphones, “as they increasingly become the preferred first screen for users”.

“It’s time for operators to realise that we are entering the era of cord-cutting, non-linear, and fully personalised TV and these new trends are being noticed at IBC 2015,” added Remškar.

Remškar noted that TV operators offer a wide range of different services with one aim in mind: to convince customers that their offer is the best deal on the market. However, he said these offers are no longer sufficient to meet user needs as today’s TV viewers increasingly watch nonlinear video content and are not interested in the conventional services being offered by today’s TV operators.

“Operators are facing the same type of transformation as the one that occurred when fixed-line telephony was eclipsed by mobile phones. Similar changes are erupting in the field of video and television,” he said.

Remškar stressed that operators need to react quickly in order to adopt to this change if they would like to remain service providers and not mere infrastructure providers.
