Deal covers 160 hours of Sony content

German SVoD Watchbox, owned by Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland, has signed a content agreement with Sony Pictures Entertainment Deutschland.

The deal covers 160 hours of Sony content, primarily animation but also Sony-produced feature films.

It also means Watchbox is now able to offer a total of over 3,500 TV episodes and 1,500 films to subscribers.

Thorsten Sandhaus, head of Watchbox at RTL interactive, said: “We want to inspire our users with extraordinary films and series off the mainstream. Our partnership with Sony Pictures is another step in expanding our attractive series and film portfolio for our users.”

Kerstin Gühne, senior vice president of Sony Pictures Entertainment, added: “Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland is one of our most important partners, and with Watchbox, Mediengruppe RTL has managed to establish a very innovative video platform that pays tribute to the changing usage behaviour of TV viewers.”
