Vivendi could reduce Mediaset holding

Proposes to cut its 29 per cent stake

Vivendi is reportedly planning to reduce its holding in Mediaset in a potential deal to end the companies’ ongoing legal dispute.

Mediaset is seeking to create a pan-European TV group called MediaForEurope, but Vivendi opposes the plan; an Italian court has given them until 22nd November to reach a compromise.

Vivendi challenged the proposal on the basis that it would tighten Silvio Berlusconi’s grip on the group. Last week Mediaset also raised its stake in German rival ProSiebensat.1 to 15 per cent and announced potential plans for 20 per cent.

The two groups are now negotiating ahead of the court deadline, with Vivendi proposing to cut its 29 per cent stake in Mediaset.
