Telefonica to finalise Disney Plus deal

Streaming service launches in Western Europe on 24th March

Telefonica is expected to add Disney Plus to its Movistar+ pay-TV offering, according to La Informacion.

The streaming service is launching in Spain (along with the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy and Austria) on 24th March, and Telefonica has notified telecom regulator CNMC of proposed changes to its convergent packages.

It is unknown whether Disney’s deal with Telefonica will be on an exclusive basis (such as Canal Plus in France) or if operators such as Orange and Vodafone will also integrate the service within their respective pay-TV platforms.

Telefonica reached a deal with Netflix to launch integrated offers on its Movistar+ platform three years after the streaming service first launched in Spain, with more than a third of Movistar subscribers opting to contract Netflix packages in the first two months.
