Sony has welcomed IBC’s Leaders’ Summit and is considering participation in the exclusive event which runs just prior to IBC, writes Adrian Pennington. According to David Bush (pictured), Sony Europe’s marketing director: “The confirmed attendees reads like a who’s who of European broadcast. We are definitely interested in taking part.”
Bush added: “We’ve been in and out of IBC over the last few years in part because we noticed that a lot of the commentary around IBC was emanating from the conference rather than the exhibition. We’ve been talking with IBC about developing their conference agenda, and this type of event in particular, and we are very encouraged to see that they have taken the initiative.
“The Conference agenda has been rebalanced so that it retains an important technical focus, but it is now broader and tackling issues of strategy and business for global decision makers.”
Bush, who has just returned from Japan, notes that IBC comes at an important moment for all broadcasters who have had to contend with supply chain issues, the result of April’s tsunami.
“The supply is starting to return to normal levels, and IBC is an opportunity for Sony and other Japanese manufacturers to acknowledge that some of our customers have had to wait long lead times to receive product, but that we are now in full recovery mode.”
Sony’s IBC themes will build on that established at NAB, namely ‘Beyond HD’ with a first European look at its F65 4K camera.
“We know that a lot of our customers are still investing in HD but IBC is a platform to talk about future aspirations. The development of 3D and 4K resolutions and workflows will be a key part of our messaging,” said Bush. “We will also be focusing on file workflows showcasing advances to our Media Backbone and SONAPS systems.”
Sony has taken over the entire Hall 12 of the Elycium building at the RAI enabling it to enlarge its stand and in particular create a large theatre area to showcase 3D and 4K content, including sequences from Wimbledon.
