RTL Deutschland consolidates tech department, sets Patrick Sturm as EVP

Sturm was previously chief technology officer at Sky Deutschland

Following RTL’s acquisition of Sky Deutschland last month, the company has announced plans to merge the two technology teams.

Patrick Sturm has been appointed executive vice president of technology and will lead the new tech team. Sturm was previously chief technology officer at Sky Deutschland.

He has been tasked with merging the two technology platforms, from infrastructure and playout to streaming, CRM, data, and AI enablement. The goal is to combine the technological strengths of RTL and Sky and accelerate the implementation of innovations within the organisation, said RTL.

In his new role, Sturm reports directly to Andreas Fischer, chief operating officer of RTL Deutschland.

“Technology is a crucial success factor for the future of our company,” said Fischer. “With Patrick Sturm, we are gaining an experienced technology and transformation manager who will further develop our technology organisation and provide important impetus for the next growth phase of RTL Germany. His experience and understanding of complex technology platforms make him the ideal candidate for this key role.”

Speaking about his new role, Sturm said: “RTL and Sky together possess very high technological expertise and outstanding teams. We want to build on this. Our aim is to create one of the strongest technology teams in the media industry and to operate on a technological level with the world’s leading streaming platforms. To achieve this, we will strategically expand our strengths and take our company’s technological performance to the next level.”
