Meet the… Project manager

Ashish Chauhan, project manager at Jigsaw24 tells TVBEurope how 'learning by doing' boosted his understanding of the media and entertainment technological landscape

Talk us through an average day in your role

One of the things I enjoy most about my role as a project manager is that there truly isn’t one day the same as the other. My schedule is dictated by the project lifecycle; depending on the phase we’re in, my priority shifts to meet specific demands.

Most of my time is dedicated to cross-functional coordination. I act as the bridge between our clients, internal teams and external partners to ensure total alignment on scope, deadlines and expectations. This involves everything from high-level planning and progress reviews to rapid problem solving when obstacles arise. Ultimately, my goal is to provide structure to delivery – creating efficient processes that empower our team and give our clients full confidence in the final result.

Ashish Chauhan, project manager at Jigsaw24
How did you get started in the media industry?

I started in the industry by volunteering in the broadcast department at my local BAPS temple, which gave me early exposure to live broadcast environments. This led to opportunities to work on international BAPS projects, including the opening of the Robbinsville, New Jersey mandir (one of the largest Hindu temples outside India) and the Abu Dhabi mandir (the first traditional Hindu stone temple in the Middle East). I was also involved in large scale stadium shows at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the world’s largest cricket stadium. Getting involved from the age of 16 allowed me to build a broad skill set early on and confirmed that the broadcast industry was the career path that I wanted to pursue.

I later joined ES Broadcast in the Systems Integration division as a proposals engineer, where I gained deep, hands on experience supporting the design and development of OB trucks and large scale broadcast facilities. This role strengthened my understanding of both the technical and commercial sides of the business. By shaping solutions and contributing to bid responses, I learnt to translate stakeholder requirements into practical, deliverable plans.

What training did you have before entering the industry?

My background is rooted in practical, on the job development across systems integration and live production. From the outset, I was immersed in complex, real‚ world projects, which gave me early exposure to the pressures and demands of live broadcast environments. I’ve contributed to high profile productions including The X Factor, projects for Netflix and Google, the Fortnite World Cup, touring with Westlife, and supporting major festival productions. This ‘learn-by-doing’ environment accelerated my understanding of the technical landscape far more quickly than a classroom setting could have. By working closely with experienced specialists and tackling live project challenges head on. I developed a pragmatic, solution-focused approach that continues to underpin my work today.

Why do you enjoy working in the industry?

For me, the draw is the intersection of technical complexity and creative output. There’s a unique satisfaction in seeing a concept evolve into a fully delivered solution, especially knowing that our work directly enables high-quality content production. Additionally, the industry is in a constant state of evolution. That pace keeps the work fresh and provides endless opportunities to refine and innovate our delivery methods.

What piece of advice would you offer someone looking to explore a role like yours?

Project management requires more than strong planning skills; it demands confidence working in fast paced, highly technical environments where deadlines are often immovable. Anyone looking to move into the role should focus on building a solid understanding of broadcast workflows and terminology, particularly in live or time critical settings, as this helps when managing risks and communicating effectively with technical and creative teams. The ability to stay calm under pressure, adapt quickly to change and coordinate multiple stakeholders is just as important as traditional project management expertise, making curiosity, resilience and clear communication key qualities for success in the field.
