Meet the… regional sales manager

Cong-Thanh Nguyen, regional sales manager, France, Ross Video, tells TVBEurope why playing a part in the global cultural impact of the M&E industry is highly motivating

Talk us through an average day in your role

I start the day with some exercise and breakfast, followed by a review of the day’s priorities. My schedule typically includes customer calls or meetings, preparing business proposals and offers, and finishing with another round of exercise.

What training did you have before entering the industry?

I hold an engineering degree in network infrastructure and software development.

How did you get started in the media industry?

I began my career at Grass Valley as a contractor when the industry was shifting towards IT-based infrastructure. Topics such as API integration, file-based workflows, and complex network infrastructure were becoming central to broadcast projects. I had the opportunity to work on large-scale projects and major sports events, which significantly enriched my experience, particularly in live production. My passion for technology grew through roles as a project engineer, solutions architect, and presales engineer, before eventually transitioning into a sales role.

Why do you enjoy working in the industry?

The broadcast industry combines cutting-edge technical infrastructure (IP, cloud, AI, AR/VS, remote production) with a direct cultural impact through sport, news, and entertainment. It is undergoing huge technological transformation — from the move from SDI to IP, to cloud adoption, and the growing influence of AI. There’s always something new to learn, which keeps the work stimulating. The industry also has a global reach, impacting billions of people in real time through major sporting events, elections, news, and entertainment. The sense of contributing to something that truly matters on a worldwide scale is highly motivating.

What piece of advice would you offer someone looking to explore a role similar to yours?

Be patient, experience is built over time. Stay curious, as there is always something new to learn. Understand operational and business needs, as technology is only a means to meet those needs. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes; there is no perfect plan. Learn from failures, and get back on your feet quickly.
