YouTube maintained its status as the leading UK streaming service throughout 2015, according to Enders’ analysis of the home entertainment market.
The streaming giant holds 35 million monthly unique users in the UK, with that figure expected to rise in years to come as millennials and beyond continue to shape the content market.
According to Enders, the growth of the OTT home entertainment market will overlap with traditional television, rather than causing cord cutting.
In 2015, SVoD service Netflix saw a 37 per cent rise in subscribers, attracting 1.8 million new users to take its UK total to 5.2 million. In contrast, Sky, Virgin Media, BT and TalkTalk combined added1.3 million subscribers.
Q4 figures from Amazon Prime Instant Video reportedly point to an imminent rise for the Netflix rival, which gathered 1.6 million viewers in Q4 following the announcement of Jeremy Clarkson’s new motoring show.
