Greening of Streaming unveils initiative to measure streaming energy consumption at scale

REM introduces an infrastructure capable of measuring the energy consumption of any streaming device remotely

Greening of Streaming has revealed the successful deployment of its Remote Energy Measurement (REM) project,  which will help the media industry understand the environmental footprint of streaming technologies.

REM introduces an infrastructure capable of measuring the energy consumption of any streaming device remotely.

The project is fully operational at the screen device end, capturing energy consumption across multiple sites.

“We are thrilled with our preliminary results; they confirm REM’s robustness,” said Greening of Streaming Working Group lead Ben Schwarz. “Our anticipation grows as we approach the first comprehensive end-to-end results, including head-end energy measurement, in collaboration with the University of Bristol.”

“By scaling our projects and tests, we’re calling on the industry to invest in this common approach to sustainability. Together, we can develop a long-term environmental strategy based on actionable real-world data to enable sustainable growth,” added Schwarz.
