Premier League set for ‘world first’ 5G stream

Australian pay-TV operator Optus Sports announces plans

Australian pay-TV operator Optus Sports has announced plans for a “world first” stream of a Premier League match via 5G.

The company has won the Australian broadcast rights for every match of the new season, which kicks off with Liverpool against Norwich.

Optus hasn’t said which match it intends to stream over 5G.

Clive Dickens, Optus vice president, TV, content and product development, said: “Making the Premier League available on Optus Sport through 5G is a world first. This will be the first of many 5G initiatives we will take at Optus.”

Premier League director of broadcasting, Paul Molnar, added: “It is great to see innovation like this by our global broadcasters and we look forward to seeing Optus Sport continue to innovate with its distribution and coverage going forward.”
