Olympic Channel to host Tokyo 2020 highlights

Avoids competing with broadcast partners by streaming live events

The Olympic Channel will host highlights from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games on its digital platform in 68 territories.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) aims to have the Olympic Channel provide highlights rather than competing with broadcast partners by streaming live events.

The IOC has retained clips rights in 68 territories across Russia, sub-Saharan Africa, the Indian subcontinent and Latin America (excluding Brazil).

IOC broadcast and media rights VP Anne-Sophie Voumard said: “This is not to be competing with our broadcasters of course but to engage an audience eager to consume Olympic Games content, but also promote our partners and drive traffic back to them.”

Eurosport is the IOC’s main European rights partner for Tokyo 2020, having secured a deal with Twitter to stream real-time highlights during the Games.
