NBCUniversal boss teases OTT service

Steve Burke also writes about the loss of 21st Century Fox to Disney

NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke has teased the company could look to launch its own OTT service in 2019.

In a letter to staff, written in the style of Dr Seuss, Burke said: “While you all go off to relax, swim or ski. Maybe, just maybe, next year we will announce our plan for OTT.”

The company has yet to announce whether it plans to launch its own streaming service, despite rivals Disney and Warner Media both scheduling their OTT launches for the end of the year. However, parent company Comcast is acquiring Sky’s NOW TV as part of its deal to buy Sky.

Burke also mentioned Comcast’s failure to acquire 21st Century Fox’s assets, telling staff: “During 2018 our businesses mostly rocked. But it did not feel at all good when Disney got Fox.”
