Andy Serkis will receive the Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema award at this year’s BAFTAs.

Known for his embracing and championing of technology in filmmaking, the actor, director and founder of The Imaginarium Studios won the International Honour for Excellence at IBC 2019.

Serkis said: “I’m deeply honoured and thrilled to receive this award, and count myself extremely lucky to be on such a continually fascinating journey in visual storytelling, one that has given me the opportunity to collaborate with many of the world’s greatest artists, technologists and craftspeople, with whom I’d like to share this wonderful accolade.”

Previous winners of the award include Derek Jarman, Kenneth Branagh and John Hurt.

The BAFTA ceremony will be hosted by Graham Norton at the Royal Opera House on 2nd February.
