The newly-launched SPORT1 US has used IT solution Avatega, from arvato Systems, as a broadcast management system. SPORT1 US was introduced by Sport1 GmbH on 1 August, broadcasting US sports in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

With the new channel, Sport1 GmbH expanded its broadcast rights for several organisations, including the National Football League (NFL) and the National Basketball Association (NBA). The company also acquired comprehensive rights for NCAA College Football and NCAA College Basketball, as well as for the IndyCar Series races.

Based on Microsoft technologies, the system provides media-related functionality in the areas of license and materials management and programme scheduling as an ‘out-of-the-box’ standard solution for all channel management functions. It can also be adapted and expanded via alert functions, workflow configurations, and/or any other configurations.

The Avatega AdSales module is also available, providing support for all aspects of marketing advertising time. At IBC2013 in Amsterdam this September, arvato Systems will present its latest ‘all-in-one’ version of Avatega, which will also be implemented at Sport1. It will demonstrate how Avatega can be used to manage and plan licensing rights across various distribution channels. This allows business processes from the linear world and the non-linear world to be operated from the same source. Moreover, Avatega can also be used to directly manage video-on-demand platforms in combination with ‘Comet’ from Swedish software company June.
