Sky plans to add another 10 stages to Sky Studios Elstree

Sky Studios Elstree North would add another 10 stages to the company's footprint

Sky is bringing forward plans to expand its new site at Sky Studios Elstree, adding another 10 sound stages.

The company wants to add Sky Studios Elstree North to its footprint. If the plans receive planning permission, both facilities would be home to 23 stages over 65 acres, with 470,000 sq ft of stage space for filming.

It would also include space for a permanent backlot to serve the new facility as well as Sky Studios Elstree.

The new development could add a further 2,000 jobs, as well as enable an additional £2 billion of production investment over the first five years of operation.

It’s believed the company hasn’t officially submitted its planning proposal to the local council yet, but has sent a scoping document to Hertsmere Borough Council outlining its plans.

Sky Studios Elstree is expected to be the home to a range of productions from Sky and NBCUniversal when it opens later this year. A film version of the musical Wicked has already been confirmed as one of the first productions to shoot at the facility.

The main site includes 13 sound stages across 27.5 acres, and is expected to attract £3 billion of new production investment to the UK over the next five years, creating 2,000 new production jobs.
