Elstree agrees ‘groundbreaking’ operational partnership with MBS Group and Hertsmere Borough Council

The agreement brings Elstree into the MBS fold as it aims to modernise operations and embrace innovation

Celebrating its centenary this year, Elstree has announced a collaboration with MBS Group, which will jointly operate the historic complex in partnership with Hertsmere Borough Council.

Representing over 650 soundstages across the major global production markets, including Ardmore Studios Ireland and Eastbrook Studios London, along with a wide range of globally-recognised sites, the MBS Group is the world’s largest studio operator with more than 50 studio campuses in eight countries. The agreement brings Elstree under its fold as it aims to modernise operations and embrace innovation.

Featuring nine sound stages, the 13-acre site has recently been transformed to represent Buckingham Palace and The Globe Theatre for various projects.

Commenting, Jason Hariton, chief studio and real estate officer at The MBS Group, said, “First as British International Pictures, then as Warner Bros-ABPC and EMI-MGM, the Elstree Studios campus has been a cornerstone of global cinematic history. We are extremely grateful to Cllr Jeremy Newmark, Rebecca Hawkes and Hertsmere Borough Council for entrusting us to help propel Elstree into its second century.”

Rebecca Hawkes, head of studios at Elstree, added, “This partnership marks an exciting chapter for Elstree Studios and firmly puts us in the global arena. Our shared aim is to create a legacy that honours our roots, serves the local community and embraces the future.”
