Sky demands Clarity for graphics

BSkyB is the recipient of Pixel Power's largest ever installation of SD/HD switchable graphics solutions. The broadcaster is to implement a Clarity system on Sky One, Sky Sports and the Sky Movies channels. All of the Clarity systems for the channels will be integrated with PixelPromo for automated programme-promo creation, writes Fergal Ringrose.

BSkyB is the recipient of Pixel Power’s largest ever installation of SD/HD switchable graphics solutions. The broadcaster is to implement a Clarity system on Sky One, Sky Sports and the Sky Movies channels. All of the Clarity systems for the channels will be integrated with PixelPromo for automated programme-promo creation, writes Fergal Ringrose.

Pixel Power’s Clarity solutions include realtime 3D software and hardware and support for Dolby E, the audio codec that allows 8.1-channel sound to be compressed into 2.0 audio. BSkyB will undertake a staged rollout of the systems with the first going live with the new graphics systems in August.

PixelPromo will be used for master control branding to save post production resource. The customised software application imports data from traffic systems and realtime schedule information and builds live-to-air promo page sequences based on pre-defined templates.

“The installation of Pixel Power’s graphics systems will mark a step forward in how we create and use graphics, audio clips and promos,” said Sky Creative Head of Production and Operations Andy Purkiss.
