Mediaset, the largest commercial broadcaster in Italy, is to use Dalet Enterprise Edition for all its news production, including a new 24 hour rolling news channel to launch later this year. The rollout of the media asset management platform begins with the installation of Dalet’s “story-centric” newsroom production and playout tools in Mediaset’s Milan headquarters, with the 10 regional bureaus to follow. In the first phase 120 staff will be using the system in Milan, with a further 25 journalists in Rome connected directly. Journalists working in the field will use web-powered connectivity to access the same functionality. The first phase also supports 40 archivists in Milan and Rome.“The ability to unify our news operations, working n a single database, will give us tremendous advantages,” said Mauro Cassanmagnago of Mediaset. “We will see immediate improvements and efficiencies in how our journalists build, broadcast and share their stories.“We believe the Dalet solution, with its advanced, open IT platform and proven scalability gives us an excellent long-term solution,” Cassanmagnago added. “It integrates well with the many other elements of our infrastructure, and is also adaptable for future technology advances.”
