Central and eastern European homes will be able to access multiple new channels and additional interactive services after a new DTH platform comes to the 1_ W satellite neighbourhood.
Intelsat has been selected by Mytv for a multi-year capacity contract to deliver its Mytv DTH platform. It will be delivered to subscribers throughout Ukraine over the Thor 6 satellite located at 1_ W. Intelsat owns 10 transponders on Telenor Satellite Broadcasting’s recently-launched Thor 6 satellite, complementing the Intelsat 10-02 satellite, also located at 1_ W.
Subscribers to the Mytv platform can access over 80 channels of movies, music, sports, lifestyle, news and children’s programmes. The service will employ DVBS-2 MPEG-4 HD Hybrid PVRs to receive Mytv packages, satellite free-to-air channels and offer additional services such as push video-on-demand, pay-per-view and interactive channels.
Jean-Philippe Gillet, Intelsat’s regional vice president, Europe and Middle East, explained that DTH programming “continues to be a growth catalyst for satellite service providers and this contract further anchors the 1_ W neighbourhood as the region’s premier DTH distribution platform.”
