Small is beautiful for Proton

Claiming to be the world’s smallest broadcast-quality camera, the Proton Cam will launch at the NAB Show

Measuring a minuscule 28mm x 28mm and weighing only 24g, the Proton Cam from German manufacturer Proton claims to be the world’s smallest broadcast-quality camera.

Designed to deliver flexibility and creative scope in its deployment, it grants a wide-angle view of up to 120° and low-light performance without any image distortion. A tally light and stereo audio functionality are also integrated directly into the unit, meaning it can be used in productions where there is a need for synchronized audio capture. Meanwhile, the company maintains that the Proton Cam maintains a longer battery life than comparable market offerings, while its lower power consumption reduces heat generation.

Proton says these factors make it especially suitable for the expanding area of drone cinematography where size, weight, and power consumption are critical factors. It also makes it suitable to enhance immersive sports experiences as it can be easily mounted on players and referees, or integrated into vehicles, nets and pitch-markers in tennis and football.

Launching at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, it is the first time the company has attended the show.

“Whilst collectively the Proton team has attended many NAB shows over the years as members of various organisations, there is something very special about attending for the first time as a new company,” says Proton CEO Marko Hoepken.
