Grass Valley has acquired Australian user interface specialist Evolution, for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition brings in house a resource which Grass Valley has been using for some time.
Evolution was founded by David Sabine in 2008, and exhibited at IBC that year an innovative touchscreen control system for a production studio. Since that time it has focused on developing products in association with other manufacturers, to simplify production workflows through the smart use of technology and intuitive user interfaces.
One of the projects on which Evolution worked was the K2 Dyno Production Assistant, which adds the ability to log large amounts of data by tagging content as it is recorded. Dorna Sports has been using the system for the last two seasons of MotoGP racing, tracking 2000 clips a day with live metadata added using K2 Dyno PA. The system was a finalist in the IBC2011 Innovation Awards.
“With the deal, Evolution brings its experience and IP within Grass Valley,” said David Sabine. “It will become a catalyst to deliver the forward-looking technology solutions demanded by the increasingly sophisticated live production market.”
Alain Andreoli, CEO of Grass Valley, added “this is a strategic move for Grass Valley, solidifying its position as an innovator. It is the first of many crucial investment we will make as part of the transformation of Grass Valley.”
