Fraunhofer IIS, ARRI partner on high-quality transport and storage of camera data

The companies aim to significantly enhance the quality and performance as well as the time-cost-efficiency in current and future media production

Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS and ARRI have joined forces to enable the transport and storage of the highest-quality image data in media and post production workflows.

They aim to significantly enhance the quality and performance as well as the time-cost-efficiency in current and future media production.

“We are very excited to combine our know-how in efficient, near-lossless image compression with ARRI’s renowned capabilities in colour science and cinematic image processing pipelines,” said Professor Siegfried Foessel, head of moving picture technologies at Fraunhofer IIS.

“This joint effort will lead to new implementations that focus on high-quality transport and storage of camera data for seamless workflow integration,” he added.

David Bermbach, managing director, ARRI Cine Technik, added: “In times when file- and IP-based technologies are the natural foundation of media production, our mission is to deliver the best user experience through innovative hardware products and integrated solutions.

“With the video coding experts from Fraunhofer, we are confident that we have partnered with scientists and engineers who are cut from the same cloth as we are.”
