Digital TV Labs announces world’s first HbbTV 2.0 test suite

Digital TV Labs are in the process of developing the world’s first HbbTV 2.0 test suite which will include DVB DASH and Microsoft PlayReady DRM.

Digital TV Labs is in the process of developing the world’s first HbbTV 2.0 test suite which will include DVB DASH and Microsoft PlayReady DRM. It will ensure compliance with the technical specification outlined as part of the recently announced Freeview connected service, being developed by Digital UK.

The contract includes the provision of Digital TV Labs Ligada iSuite test tool and test material covering components of HbbTV 2.0 (the latest version of the ETSI standard), DVB DASH, Microsoft PlayReady DRM, HTML5 as well as those specific to the Freeview broadcast and IP hybrid service. Additionally, dynamic advert insertion tests will be included. The test suite shall be utilised by iDTV and set-top box manufacturers to ensure conformance with the technical requirements.

“Digital TV Labs is recognised as one of the leading global testing solutions providers in the media device industry,” said Ilse Howling, managing director, Connected TV at Digital UK. “We look forward to working with them to bring the next generation of Freeview products to life.”

The ‘Freeview connected’ technical summary makes use of similar technologies to those of the French TNT2.0 and Spanish TDT Hibrida specifications, for which Digital TV Labs has already developed test suites. These test suites form part of the Ligada iSuite for HbbTV product range which is used by over 90 per cent of manufacturers globally, by market share. Digital TV Labs also developed the official OIPF test suite, another technological component of the service.

Keith Potter (pictured), CEO of Digital TV Labs added, “Digital TV Labs has a strong record of working with service providers in the connected TV sector and in supplying high quality testing products and services to the CE manufacturing industry. Freeview connected utilises some of the latest technology, some of which has yet to be deployed and we look forward to working with Digital UK to ensure a successful launch.”
