Bikini Films recently completed concert film JLS: Eyes Wide Open 3D, which enjoyed a limited cinema release, while HDMusic.tv shot 3D footage from Elbow’s recent tour for a 75minute Sky documentary. The latter employed three Panasonic AG-3DA1 integrated camcorders.
The JLS feature, directed by Andy Morahan and Ben Winston, was shot on 11 Swiss mirror rigs using Grass Valley LDK 8000s (pictured) supplied by Belgium’s Outside Broadcast and Sony HDC-P1s supplied by Presteigne. Additional 2D shots were processed through Sony’s MPE-200 and post converted at Prime Focus. Footage was recorded to HDCAM-SR.
The film features concert footage from the band’s recent UK tour as well as exclusive interviews and behind the scenes clips. Prime Focus editor Harry Anstey cut the show in 3D on Media Composer 5 creating approval and viewing play-outs from Smoke. Alignment and convergence passes were made in Baselight prior to the main grade. Peter Van Hooke directed HDMusic.tv’s production for Universal music in association with Panasonic of Elbow’s 2011 tour in support of their ‘build a rocket boys!’ album. Three camcorders were used alongside a mirrored 3D Swiss rig and one side-by-side Element Technica Quasar loaded with AJ-HPX3100 P2 cameras. Three BT-3DLH2250 field 3D broadcast monitors were used on site as well as three TX-P50VT20 3D Viera consumer plasma televisions. The production used five hours of footage shot over three days.
