Televisió de Catalunya is enriching its popular reality shows with second screen apps for an array of devices. The platform to design and deliver these apps is provided by digital marketing agency La Moderna, using Civolution technology to provide the synchronisation between the primary and additional content.

TVC used the technology to create an app for Oh Happy Day, which ranked number six in the Spanish app store at launch. It uses Civolution’s SyncNow audio watermarking technology, so that the additional content is provided in sync with the programme, whether it is watched live or on demand.

The apps provide exclusive second screen content including unseen footage and interviews with the cast as well as realtime voting. The intention is to deepen the relationship between the show and its fans.

“The adoption of social TV apps is rapidly spreading and we are seeing large interest for second screen app developments,” said Nacho Muñoz, CEO of La Moderna. “The combination of the La Moderna platform and Civolution SyncNow technology brings some fantastic added value features, which enable broadcasters like Televisió de Catalunya to provide fans with extra fun layers of content.

“At the same time, it drives new viewership by encouraging people to get involved with the show, even outside the standard television schedule,” he added. La Moderna’s Second Screen Lab, incorporating the Civolution technology, offers a wide set of applications for broadcasters, producers and brands to enhance their content through increased viewer engagement.
