Satellite uplink manufacturer Advent Communications has agreed an order for the DVE5000 Digital Video Exciter, just launched at IBC, to French film-maker Films du Soleil. Based in Marseilles, the broadcast news and documentary specialist operates a fleet of DSNG vans and ENG/EFP teams that travel worldwide.

The DVE5000 is a High and Standard Definition MPEG encoder with integrated L-Band modulation and an HPA controller to support a wide range of TWTAs and SSPAs. It is a compact design that can be installed in newsgathering vehicles, where two units, typically the Digital Video Exciter and the Block Upconverter, can be installed side by side in one 19″ rack.

“These units are switchable from SD to HD and vice versa, using MPEG-2 now – and upgradable to MPEG-4. They can be programmed in the field so there is no need to send the software back to base to be modified,” said Jacques Hubinet, chairman of Films du Soleil. “This is a great advantage – and they are also extremely compact, which will save space and weight in our vehicles. This very compact shape will be particularly useful for our fly-aways.”

Stephen Rudd, MD of Advent Communications commented: “We are very encouraged by the interest in our 5000 Series electronics and the orders received just days after the launch. Advent is probably offering some of the most up-to-date electronic products for satellite uplinks on the market.”
