Brompton Technology has announced its solutions have been selected by VG Media Studio as part of its new virtual production facility.
Designed to support a wide range of productions including short films. advertising and feature length productions, the new studio was designed to enable the full-service marketing and production agency to offer increased project options while maintaining reliability and efficiency.
With technical performance and operational simplicity forming key considerations, the facility was built around an LG LED volume and Mo-Sys tracking. Brompton Tessera processing provides superior colour precision and camera flexibility, aiming to enable reliability across a broad range of operations.
More than 100 square metres of LG LED are driven by two 4K Tessera SX40 processors for the wall and an additional Tessera S8 powering the ceiling. Each SX40 is paired with two Tessera XD 10G data distribution boxes, said the company. Operating at up to 60fps, the system has the potential to reach 120fps through further configuration.
Two spaces within the facility are operated by VG Media Studio. The main LED studio provides around 250 square metres of space ahead of the wall, while an additional 70 square metre studio can be used as a conventional film or photography space,
Commenting, Simon Brüstl, virtual production engineer at VG Media Studio, said, “I really like the Brompton system we have here because it’s super fast and reliable. The UI is really clean and has all the functions you need during operation. It just does the job that it has to do.”
Brompton’s integration with Stream Deck aims to enable control of the LED stage from a familiar interface, while its colour pipeline ensures precision and consistency across different cameras.
VG Media Studio can use Mo-Sys markers that are visible to the tracking system but not the production camera, enabling the display of tracking data without compromising the image. Frame remapping can provide different LED feeds for individual cameras in multi-camera productions, with Custom Markers displaying text, cues or other instructions without appearing in the final shot.
Oliver Dier, technical solutions manager (EMEA) at Brompton Technology, said, “Brompton processing supports any production that needs the best camera performance, best visual colour performance, and of course, accuracy and reliability. VG asked us to deliver exactly that.”
“We try to individually explore the option of filming in front of the wall with each of our customers, and already have done that in some parts,” added Philipp Offermann, head of management and booking at VG Media Studio. “But the overall goal is mainly to rent our facilities, equipment and know-how to external production companies. We are really happy with the results, our partners, and the support we’re getting, and we are proud to be able to offer the best Hollywood-grade products on the market to our customers.”
The facility has already hosted work including a short film with multiple settings and a full movie production. VG Media sees the new studio as part of its wider offering, providing a virtual production environment to serve its own clients and external teams.
