Advent expands Tornino teleport

Skylogic has awarded a further contract for five earth stations to Advent Communications as part of the continued expansion of the teleport at Torino. This will bring the total number of antennas at the teleport to fifteen.

Advent Communications initially installed eight satellite up-link stations at the Torino teleport for the Winter Olympics at the start of 2006. An additional order was received in the summer for two Ka Band systems at the site, which Advent is currently installing.

Following a series of in-depth meetings with the customer, Advent is also to relocate and upgrade four additional antennas and will supply and install one totally new 3 + 1 DBS Band system which will consist of a 5.6 metre antenna and brand new electronic subsystems. These are to be supplied as a turnkey solution, with Advent also supplying remote control and monitoring software.

Stephen Rudd at Advent commentated: “The installation earlier this year was challenging because of the weather conditions in the mountains but, even so, we were able to complete the work according to schedule. We are delighted that Skylogic has come back to us for this phase of the expansion, it means that the entire teleport will have been installed by Advent Communications. This challenging project would not have been possible without the help and cooperation of all the Skylogic Skypark technical team”.

Cotelettron spa, Advent’s agent in Italy, has played a significant part in the negotiations for this and previous orders.

The new antennas are to be used for a variety of services, including internet traffic. The installation is to be completed early in 2007, ideally before the winter snowfalls.
