Synamedia and Hearst Networks partner to boost EMEA cloud distribution

The partnership aims to streamline distribution across Hearst Network's EMEA affiliates

Synamedia has announced a collaboration with Hearst Networks EMEA which enables the broadcaster to utilise Synamedia’s SaaS-based Quortex PowerVu as a fully managed service, aiming to cut costs and streamline distribution across its 10 EMEA affiliates.

In addition to providing bandwidth efficiency and premium picture quality, Quortex PowerVu includes support for open standards and integrated disaster recovery, aiming to enable Hearst to add new channels and distribution partners in hours, rather than days, said the company. Running on AWS, the new service will launch later this year.

The partnership gives Hearst access to Synamedia’s Global Cloud Operations Centre, specialising in DevOps for the maintenance and operation of cloud-based media workflows and ensuring full control and monitoring of content flow end points and incident management.

Matt Westrup, CTO at Hearst Networks EMEA, said, “We chose to partner with Synamedia because the company offered a risk-free way to move our distribution to the cloud and benefit from new levels of scalability and flexibility while cutting operating costs. When we assessed Synamedia’s CloudOps Centre, we were impressed by the calibre of its services and found a perfect match for our business needs.”

Elke Hungenaert, VP of product management at Synamedia, added, “Quortex PowerVu and our fully managed services provide a compelling proposition for content providers, such as Hearst Networks, who are ready to enjoy the benefits of switching to IP distribution. Because we support satellite, IP and CDN, we offer content owners the flexibility to evolve to IP at their own pace. And the addition of our managed services is the icing on the cake for anyone looking to outsource network management.”
