How long have you been going to IBC?
This will be my second year at IBC; last year was my first, and although it felt overwhelming at times, it was ultimately a valuable and eye-opening experience.
What’s your typical IBC routine: what are you there to see/learn, who are you there to meet?
IBC is a prime networking opportunity; you meet key people everywhere. My schedule includes meetings with Hearst Network EMEA’s current and prospective suppliers, focusing on Playout, Central Management Systems, and EPG providers. I’m keen to explore new tech, especially AI advancements, to boost innovation and efficiency for my team.
Why is IBC important to you in a professional capacity, and how does the show compare to others on the calendar?
IBC is hands down the big event of the year, busy and full of energy. It’s the best place to find what you need or get inspired by something totally new. In broadcasting, it’s all about working smarter and faster these days, and there’s no better place than IBC to see how that’s done.
There’s also a growing acknowledgment at IBC of the role women play in tech, and last year I was fortunate enough to attend a few female centric sessions. It was encouraging to connect with so many talented women in the industry, and whilst women are still underrepresented, the positive momentum I’ve observed suggests the landscape is steadily improving compared to recent years.
What are you most looking forward to at IBC2025?
There were lots of things I found challenging last year which are also the things I am looking forward to tackling this year. I didn’t anticipate how big IBC was (despite the various warnings) but this year I am more mentally prepped. I am focused on the opportunities at hand and have been very selective with my time, allowing myself sufficient breaks between appointments. With that space, I am keen to make sure I catch up on all the topical panel talks which is where I get most of my inspiration. For me that’s the thing I am looking forward to the most – anticipate the unanticipated!
What’s your top tip for anyone attending IBC for the first time?
For anyone attending IBC for the first time, I suggest not to overbook your diary! Give yourself time to navigate as the sheer magnitude of the event is unprecedented. And use the opportunity to network network network – so many events, drinks and gatherings that can be attended.
