Hitomi Broadcast has announced the launch of Spectra, a colour verification solution measured in picture, rather than VPID.
With live workflows carrying more formats and versions through the same facility, including SDR and HDR from a single production, there is an increasing need to eliminate configuration errors, said the company.
Aiming to provide engineers with a fast, objective check that reduces reliance on visual judgement, Hitomi’s Spectra generates a defined set of test colours at source, sends them through the normal programme route before analysing them at the end.
Incorrect LUTs, unexpected conversions and routing errors between SDR and HDR paths are highlighted before they become visible on air.
Russell Johnson, director at Hitomi, said, “In the pressure of set-up, errors in a video source can be missed because there is a recognisable picture. If the colour path is wrong, that problem can travel through the workflow and affect the final programme.”
