Twitch moves into ‘traditional’ sports after signing deals with European football giants

Streamer has introduced a new sports category on its platform

Amazon’s streaming platform Twitch has made its most significant move into “traditional” sports yet after signing content deals with football teams in England, Spain, Italy and France.

It has introduced a new sports category on the platform and relaunched its /twitchsports channel.

The streamer has agreed content deals with Real Madrid, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal. All four clubs will produce exclusive content to be streamed on Twitch. Each one has agreed a different content plan, dependent on broadcast rights restrictions.

Twitch is more commonly known for esports and gaming, with more than 70 per cent of its audience under the age of 34.

Marseille recently announced plans to stream two friendlies on Twitch, while Amazon streamed four Premier League matches on the platform following the resumption of matches.
