New Scotflix streaming platform takes the Hiway

Providing audience and revenue insights for users, Scotflix removes technological barriers to streaming while ensuring creators retain their IP

A streaming platform dedicated to Scottish content will debut next month at the Scottish Screenwriters Festival in Glasgow.

Featuring content made in Scotland, by Scottish creators or centred on Scottish subjects, Scotflix aims to ensure full ownership of IP is retained by creators. Users will be able to quickly upload content, set metadata and build syndication contracts on the platform, with the Scotflix team reviewing and setting it live once approved.

Founded by Maureen Hascoet, founder of Firewalker Pictures and the Scottish Screenwriters Film Festival, Scotflix aims to remove technological barriers for creators. Powered by the Hiway content operating system, the platform removes the need for users to build streaming infrastructure.

Content has already been committed by BAFTA-winning filmmakers, established production companies and independent creators, said the company.

Commenting, Maureen Hascoet, founder of Scotflix said, “For decades, Scotland has produced extraordinary writers, filmmakers, actors and crews, but too often the IP, the audience relationship and the long-term value leave with the distribution.  There is no shortage of audience for Scotland. There is a shortage of infrastructure and connection. Scotflix is that infrastructure. For too long, Scottish creators have been tenants on someone else’s land. Scotflix hands them the title deeds. If your project has a Scottish interest, you are in.”

David Orman, co-founder and CEO of Hiway, added,  “Scotflix is exactly what Hiway was built for. A way for companies to operate their own streaming service, live in minutes, without hiring technical teams or investing heavily in complicated streaming technologies. Plus a community of creators who deserve to own what they make. That’s why the partnership is so great – every filmmaker on Scotflix keeps their IP, owns their fan data and gets paid in real time. No middlemen, no ninety-day payment windows, no giving away your audience to someone else’s algorithm.”

From its launch on September 12th, the platform will be available at scotflix.co.uk, with plans for mobile and Smart TV apps to follow. There are no limits to how much content can be hosted and streamed, with curation provided by the Scotflix editorial team.
