‘Plenty of growth left’: Global SVoD subscribers set to reach 1.76 billion by 2028

According to Digital TV Research, Disney Plus will add 57 million subscribers subscribers over the next five years, but Netflix will remain the largest platform

Global SVoD platforms will add another 400 million subscribers in the next five years, according to new figures from Digital TV Research.

The analysts predict global SVoD subscribers will reach 1.76 billion by 2028, with 24 countries reaching 10 million subscribers each.

The company predicts there’s still “plenty of growth left” in the sector, with six US-based platforms predicted to have 972 million SVoD subscribers by 2028 (55 per cent of the world’s total), up from 711 million in 2022.

Much of the growth will come from the younger platforms completing their global rollouts, added the analysts.

Simon Murray, principal analyst at Digital TV Research, said: “Netflix will remain the largest platform despite Disney Plus adding 57 million subscribers between 2022 and 2028. Netflix will add 46 million subscribers.”
