Spanish football giant Barcelona is joining the streaming wars with a new SVoD service, Barca TV Plus.
It includes 3,000 videos and 1,000 hours of content including live and delayed broadcast matches and on-demand content.
Barca TV Plus is available via Barcelona FC’s website and app for all devices (PC, tablet, mobile and TV using cast technology). It will be available worldwide and in three languages: Catalan, Spanish and English.
The club already has Barca TV, a cable channel in Spain which is carried by the likes of Movistar Plus, Orange TV and Vodafone.
Launch content on Barca TV Plus includes Ready! Antoine Griezmann’s challenges, in which the first team star puts fellow sportspeople to the test with a series of challenges, and Origins, which offers an intimate view of players’ careers including interviews and comments from family and friends.
“FC Barcelona want to remain a benchmark club both on and off the pitch and continue to be the leading sports entity in the generation of revenue,” said Oriol Tomàs, VP of Commercial Area at FC Barcelona. “With this in mind, the creation of this new digital product ecosystem opens up a new way of doing business for us, which we hope will become one of the main sources of regular income for the club in the coming years, helping us to continue growing and remain competitive in an increasingly sophisticated environment.”
