Amazon Web Services has announced its Transit Gateway is now able to support IP multicast across a number of its key regions in America, Europe and Asia.
According to the company, IP multicast on AWS Transit Gateway enables customers to build multicast applications in the Cloud and distribute data across thousands of connected Amazon Virtual Private Cloud networks.
Multicast delivers a single stream of data to many users simultaneously, and is a preferred protocol to stream multimedia content and subscription data to a group of subscribers.
AWS said with support for IP multicast, AWS Transit Gateway allows users to build multicast applications in the Cloud and easily monitor, manage, and scale multicast configurations up to hundreds of receivers.
AWS added that it is the first Cloud provider to offer native IP multicast capabilities that enable users to migrate their multicast applications to the cloud.
