UHD Spain offers to become testbed for Spanish broadcasters

The association is offering to work with the entirs broadcast industry chain on the move to UHD

UHD Spain has said it intends to become a testbed for the entire broadcast industry chain, from broadcasters to manufacturers, operators, and technology companies.

“The association offers support to those who want to start broadcasting in UHD through the new RGE2 network,” said UHD Spain president Victor Sánchez.

“We are offering these resources as a prelude to the evolution toward UHD and DVB-T2, allowing operators to test signals before launching regular broadcasts,” added the association’s vice president, Xavi Redón.

Spanish public broadcaster RTVE has led the way in moving towards HD and UHD broadcasts via DTT, ceasing SD transmissions in February 2024.

“Our goal is to continue incorporating more UHD content into our regular broadcasts,” said Sánchez, who is also RTVE’s director of media and operations. “UHD is the way for DTT to remain a free, competitive and high-quality platform. There are no additional costs for the user, as is the case with pay platforms.”
