Channel 4 has announced the launch of its streaming app on Apple Vision Pro.
The channel is the first UK broadcaster available on the device, which mixes virtual reality and augmented reality to deliver an immersive experience.
Blending digital content with the physical environment, the solution will enable viewers of Channel 4’s Taskmaster game to experience the feeling of being immersed into the programme, with content overlaid onto their real-world backgrounds, such as living room walls, said the broadcaster.
According to Channel 4, the project highlights its ambitions to expand its viewer reach and engagement, recognising evolving consumer behaviour and the increasing demand for experiences in TV programming.
Director of technology and distribution at Channel 4, Grace Boswood, said, “The new Channel 4 Apple Vision Pro app builds on our heritage of viewer innovation, be that the first broadcaster in the world to offer a TV-based on-demand service, or the first PSB to launch an HD channel in the UK. The app also enables us to create even more viewer delight in one of our most cherished shows, Taskmaster, moving it from the TV to the physical world. As we transition to become a public service streamer, we’re constantly exploring new ways to entertain viewers and engage advertisers through technology which creates remarkable experiences.”
Channel 4’s product and technology teams partnered with its in-house creative agency 4creative on the project, alongside Taskmaster producer, Avalon and streaming development partner, Accenture.
