SailGP offers Emmy-winning graphics overlay solution to other sports

The on-screen visuals and graphics solution processes 1.15 billion data requests per hour

SailGP has announced its LiveLineFX graphics overlay solution will be made available for other sports properties and rights owners.

Produced remotely from SailGP’s broadcast studio and supplied by Oracle Cloud, the on-screen visuals and graphics solution processes 1.15 billion data requests per hour to provide performance information in real time, said the company. LiveLineFX collects data including speed, direction, sea state and weather conditions from 125 sensors on each racing catamaran, which is presented as a graphical overlay for the company’s broadcast partners in 212 international territories.

Combining GPS data with helicopter-shot course video and the Oracle Cloud, LiveLineFX offers tracking accuracy to within two centimetres and enables delivery of graphical overlays of geo-positioned course markers and boundary lines, said SailGP.

The company added that the broadcast graphics package is now being developed for use in other sports properties, such as cycling, horse racing, surfing and a variety of out-of-stadium sports. The solution also provides 2D and 3D on-screen advertising opportunities.

Warren Jones, chief technology officer at SailGP, said: “From the outset, SailGP has prioritised patented, leading-edge immersive media technologies and LiveLineFX is an award-winning example of this. It is truly unique and hasn’t just been built for use by SailGP, it has been developed with other sports properties and broadcasters in mind where the viewing experience can be difficult due to the nature of the sport. We are now welcoming conversations with a range of potential partners and are excited to see how other sports can benefit from LiveLineFX.”
