Lumen Technologies and LTN have announced a live sports production collaboration.
The joint offering aims to provide tier one sports leagues and broadcasters with low-latency, high-bandwidth connectivity and real-time content enrichment through a combinaton of Lumen’s Vyvx Broadcast Solutions suite and LTN’s master control services. The collaboration aims to enable users to achieve effective remote production workflows and empower delivery of dynamic coverage across hybrid environments with real-time studio and announcer integration.

RTL Deutschland utilised the blend in its remote production of Super Bowl LIX and live events throughout the NFL season. Signals were transported between New Orleans and LTN’s Cologne operations centre, enabling real-time communication between presenters both in Germany and at Caesars Superdome.
Jens Schmitz, head of sports production RTL Deutschland, said: “As the broadcast home of the NFL in Germany, one of the sport’s most dynamic markets outside the US, we are committed to innovation with the ultimate goal of delivering cutting-edge viewing experiences that help grow the NFL’s fan base in Germany. The powerful integration between Lumen and LTN makes it simple for us to gain mission-critical, dependable connectivity into iconic stadiums while delivering engaging and unique coverage for our fast-growing audience.”
Underpinned by what it describes as one of the world’s largest fibre IP networks, Lumen Vyvx Broadcast Solutions provides video transport for some of the biggest global media companies. Vyvx’s low-latency JPEG-XS encoding and high-bandwidth signal transport platform enables video transmission from major sports venues while harnessing LTN’s live sports programming ecosystem, said the companies, enabling content enrichment, master control and multipoint distribution services.
Rick Gibson, senior director, Vyvx Solutions at Lumen Technologies, said, “Our unique video transmission expertise combined with LTN’s advanced content enrichment services helps customers enhance their content monetisation and opens up new opportunities for global distribution.”
Mike Burk, LTN general manager, event production and transmission unit, added: “Delivering complex live event productions with feature-rich language customisation and multipoint global distribution requires the highest quality connectivity and IP ecosystem efficiencies. Our partnership with Lumen offers world-leading sports organisations a complete and effective solution for premium live sports streaming.”
