Corner taken quickly… SAPEC develops new CornerCam

The solution includes two HD cameras with 1080i and horizontal panning that are fitted into the corner flag

Video contribution and distribution solution developer SAPEC has worked with The Corner Cam to develop a new CornerCam solution, which was trialled at Spain’s Copa del Rey 2023 earlier this month.

The solution includes two HD cameras with 1080i and horizontal panning that are fitted into the corner flag, one at top of the flag pole and the other at the bottom.

Both cameras are remotely controllable via a joystick system. The lower camera rotates enough to obtain a total viewing angle of more than 100º, and the upper camera allows panning to provide a full view around the corner, said SAPEC.

Both cameras can be integrated into live broadcasts via a fibre optic connection to the OB truck, added the company.

SAPEC’s R&D team has been working on the solution for the last two years, with it now pending approval from the International Football Association Board.

According to Javier Palenciano, SAPEC’s sales manager, the project “shows that SAPEC is more than ready to undertake developments of this calibre, with significant conceptual, logistical, technical and operational challenges.

“We have received very positive feedback from the media, technical staff and the public, which makes us approach the next phases of product development in collaboration with The Corner Cam with great enthusiasm.”
