Broadcast teams could be forced to work on Christmas Eve in Premier League shake-up

If it goes ahead, the game would be the first live match to take place in England's top flight on Christmas Eve for almost 30 years

The Premier League is reportedly considering the possibility of a live match taking place on Christmas Eve this year.

If it was to go ahead, it would be the first live match to take place in England’s top flight on Christmas Eve for almost 30 years.

According to the Daily Telegraph, proposals for a Christmas Eve kick-off have been discussed this week, with discussions set to take place today as the league finalises its festive fixtures.

It’s thought one of the matches on Saturday 23rd December could be pushed back a day to the traditional Sunday broadcast slot.

The Telegraph also suggests some of the matches currently scheduled for December 30th could also be moved to New Year’s Eve.

The Premier League previously tried to schedule a match on Christmas Eve in 2017, but the idea was scrapped following a backlash from supporters.
